Sven Gunnar Simonsen
Independent Analyst and International Reporter

Welcome

 a

I am an Oslo-based independent analyst and international reporter. I write on international affairs – the conflict stuff, mostly. Blame that on my 14 years as a researcher at the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO).

As a researcher I wrote my PhD dissertation on post-Soviet Russia. Later I did fieldwork in Afghanistan, East Timor, and Kosovo, and I worked on topics such as peacebuilding, ethnic relations, and security sector reform. (If you want to know more about me, click on ‘Profile’).

I returned to journalism, my professional first love, in early 2009. Since then my writing has appeared in publications including Jane’s Intelligence Review, La Vanguardia Dossier, The Independent, and Aftenposten Innsikt.

My main purpose with this website is to make available my back catalogue of publications, above all the academic ones. You’ll find a good number of them, all gratis, under ‘Downloads’.

I’ll be adding new publications for
download regularly.
